BACK TO THE FUTURE


I was born in one of the world's densest cities. 

 

After my birth, my parents moved to a new suburb. With planned roads, parks, lakes and airy open space, our suburb was a vision of the future. 


Today, it looks like this.


India's economic growth in recent decades and a resultant increase in urban migration has put huge pressure on its cities. By 2050, 700 million, 2.5x the size of the USA's present population, will move to Indian cities. It will be the largest urban movement in the world.*


Like elsewhere in the developing world, the city of my birth is rapidly expanding into a "New Town". This series is an exploration of its sartorial re-birth. And sadly, it's loss of character.
